Next Generation Molecular Transplant Pathology: Early Experiences with the NanoString nCounter® Platform in Transplantation
By allowing for reliable gene expression analysis of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue, the NanoString® nCounter® platform represents a potential game-changer for the field of molecular transplant pathology. This webinar will highlight some early experiences with this technology for applications related to transplantation, including: 1) technical validation of the nCounter system in archival FFPE human renal allograft biopsies; 2) confirmation of microarray-derived human molecular phenotypes in a nonhuman primate model for kidney transplantation using archival FFPE samples up to 20 years old; 3) use of an 800-gene panel to assess the molecular differences and similarities between renal allograft rejection and native kidney polyomavirus nephropathy; and 4) discovery of a molecular injury-repair response in ex vivo perfused porcine lung and heart transplants. Future opportunities will also be discussed, including: 1) the ability to perform spatially-resolved transcriptomics using the NanoString GeoMx™ Digital Spatial Profiling system; and 2) participation in international collaborative research initiatives facilitated by the Banff Foundation for Allograft Pathology, leveraging the new nCounter Human Organ Transplant Panel.
